Why am I not living the life that I want to live?

Back to all

Have you ever asked yourself that question? What was your answer?

Is the reason you’re not living the life you want someone else’s fault? Is it your boss’s fault? They’re always holding you back, aren’t they? What about your spouse? Heaven knows they’ve cramped your style for years. Wait a minute! It must be your parents’ fault. If they would have just raised you differently you would be living a totally different life.

Maybe the problem is bigger than a single person. Is it because of the economy? How does anyone live a good life with an economy like this? Maybe it’s the government? Maybe you think the government isn’t doing enough to help, or you think that the government just needs to get out of your way!

I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this: if you think any of these issues are the reason that you’re not living the life you want; you are never going to live that life. Each of these examples have one underlying theme; we have given ownership of our dream to someone (or something) else.

Giving away the ownership also gives away the control. If we blame someone else then there is nothing we can do to change the situation because, in our minds, it’s someone else’s fault. We are left with no control over our circumstances. We need to be very cautious whenever we start to blame people or other things for situations in our lives.

The answer to the question “Why am I not living the life that I want to live?” is simple. You are not yet the kind of person who can create the life that you want to live. You need to grow as a person. You need to gain the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to live the life that you’re not yet living; otherwise, you would already be living the life you desire.

We all have unlimited potential. The more that we can tap into our potential, the better our lives will be. Unfortunately, most of us either can’t see that potential in ourselves or we are not willing to do the things necessary to reach that potential.

One way to catch a glimpse of the potential that lives inside of each of us is to set and reach a goal. Accomplishing a goal is like looking through a window at our potential. We realize that we can do difficult things if we put our minds to it. If you are not yet living the life that you want to live, now is the time to become the person who can live that life.

What goals will you accomplish?
